Hi everyone, im James, volunteer GP. I discussed a case of primary hypertension last week and said id put something on the forum. The podcast is really useful and has saved me from doing too much research. Id like to draw attention to the medication ladder mentioned in the podcast which is great. I thought it might be worth mentioning if blood tests arent available it is worth using drugs lower down the ladder so you dont run into problems with kidneys/potassium. Beta blockers arent used so much in the UK for primary hypertension but id be tempted to use them if available and not contraindicated as theyre effective and like calcium channel blockers, dont really need any blood monitoring. This might help if youre concerned the patient isnt going to come back for review.
Thanks and good points James. We’d love you to post educational stuff/interesting cases on here
Thank you very much, we really appreciate.
